Feldspar at The Conran Shop & London Craft Week
Welcome! To our inaugural blog piece. Or ‘News’, as we’re calling it. An amalgamation of things we’re up to - new products or events we’re taking part in, things we’ve done - interviews or the all-important treehouse building progress, and just a general record of living and working in rural Devon.
We’re delighted to announce that Feldspar will be imminently launching at The Conran Shops in London and Paris. For over 40 years The Conran Shop has become a by-word for excellence in design and craftsmanship, and needless to say we are over the moon to be included in their selection.
To celebrate the launch of Feldspar at The Conran Shop, Jeremy will show London Craft Week visitors how Feldspar’s china coffee cups come to life in a live model-making session between 11am to 5pm on Saturday 12 May. Given that each delicate ceramic vessel is slip-cast, the first step on its journey is the making of a master model. A lathed cylinder of plaster is shaped and detailed using chisels, gouges and other tools, before being ‘blocked out’ with clay and cast in plaster to form the mould. Some of Feldspar’s products require moulds with as many as four parts.
The live demo is part of The Conran Shop’s London Craft Week programme, ‘Global Market', which will also showcase the techniques behind products by Danish furniture designer Carl Hansen & Søn and Japanese ceramic miniaturist Yuta Segawa among others.
Living, as we do, in the middle of nowhere, it’s rare that we actually get to meet people - let alone the lovely people who take an interest in Feldspar - so it would be excellent if you’re able to come and say hello!
