Walnut Nutcracker

The nutcracker comprises of a bowl with a brass plinth – to use you carefully hit the shell of the nut with the accompanying hammer. The handle and head are meticulously weighted to ensure that minimal force is needed so you can be extremely delicate with cracking nutshells. Gone are the days of walnuts crushed to smithereens: we collect nutcrackers, all sorts, from everywhere, and most seem to favour force over accuracy.

These beautiful objects are each locally hand-turned and beautifully finished, a thing of wonder to sit proudly on show when not in use. It is buffed to a high polish using a mix of natural wax and Jeremy’s own recipe all-natural wood butter. We have made only a limited run, all from a beautiful stash of Black American Walnut we’ve had at the workshop. Each is numbered out of a first edition of 50 - the most we could make with this particular batch of wood.

The Feldspar Nutcracker is entirely made in Devon – even the brass parts are milled just down the road from our workshop – and is accompanied by a bespoke instruction manual illustrated by the wonderful John Broadley. His beautiful drawings form an old-fashioned flip-book, all sitting together in an elegant blue and gold gift box.

Elegant and a touch eccentric, a wonderful object for life.
